Why is it good to take the exam?

In addition to practicing every week and taking part in our student recital every semester, you can use the exams to measure the development of your knowledge even more effectively. You can set specific goals with your preparation, and you can see the results of your work at all skill levels. A successful exam is an internal reward for your preparation, the certificate is an external confirmation. From Initial Grade to Grade 8, each exam is a snapshot of the continuous work, following them you can see your progress very well, which can give you additional motivation. A music exam is an advantage for admission to many Western European universities.

How it works?

Our school follows the examination system of the British ABRSM (The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music), which is open to everyone regardless of geographical location and age. 8+1 grades can be completed, after which a diploma exam is also possible. The exams take place in a digital format, a video recording of the instrument playing must be submitted, and the theory exam is an online test. Each Grade requires a recital-like performance of 4 piano pieces from the Syllabus, which is updated every two years. In addition, it is worth dealing with several other areas. Scaling helps you navigate the different tones, and technically prepares the virtuoso runs that occur in the pieces. Sightreading helps you to have no problem in reading sheet music and to understand the music on paper as soon as possible. The listening exercises are meant so that you don't only know music theory on paper, but also that your ears are ready for immediate interpretation. We also wrote a blog post about the examination system. We definitely spend dedicated time on music theory, as the Grade 5 exam is a prerequisite for the higher-level instrumental exams.

With one or two bits of information, Balázs is able to make me understand complete systems of music theory, things that I tried to learn from books for hours and weeks without success.
